Boston Bookclub

Because we like to write a lot of emails, because we have trouble reaching a consensus, because we're busy people, and, most importantly, because we all have fascinating insights into literature... we are making this space the space where we do all things 'book club.'

Just to be decisive, Tamarind House, 7:30pm.

1790 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA
I'll make reservations.
Ok, are we meeting at the restaurant, or are we meeting at Kathy's for take out????
Also, who is doing the list?

Thai food is good for me...I like the Tamarind House (or take-out to Kathy's). Later is better for me. Should be able to make 7:30pm (provided traffic is OK). No garter's.
I'm good with Tamarind House at 7:30pm...See you then.
Do most women have a garter or just Cat? I'm okay with Tamarind or Kathy's (with a "K") house and with the 7:30 time.
I vote for Tamarind house, I'm intrigued by it and have never eaten there. Although there is only a tenouse link between thai and the story, I think its the best option (non greasy food and we'll be able to hear ourselves).

Lets say 7:30 to accomodate Yoga and the people who work in the far reaches of Metro Boston. Should I wear garters just like Clare does on that first date?
Spell my name right!
i really really really want thai food.
okay, so henry and clare's first date was at a thai restaurant:
there are three thai places in cambridge that i particularly enjoy: one on dunster street in harvard square, the tamarind house on mass ave around the corner from my place and the very trendy looking sugar & spice also on mass ave north of porter.

also, cathy lives on henry street! so maybe we can just order in and eat at her place? she's up for it...

i picked up this book again yesterday (read it last year but wanted to be 'fresh') - i'm already 330 pages in... god, I love this story. sigh...

Uno's would work. Or we could try to come up with some other bar like the Model that isn't as loud and that serves meals...

I will be at yoga prior to our meeting so a later starting time (7:30 or 8:00?) would be better for me. Does that work for everyone? If not, I can just come in late.
so, i don't think the Model serves anything more than some fingerfood...so, good scene, but again, maybe not the best place to try to have dinner or talk about the book..i had been thinking uno's as well bc of the chicago connection...
If we think The Model is too loud, then what about Pizzeria Uno? It has to deal with Chicago, no? Once we decide on a place to attend does 7pm work for people?

I LOVE the idea of The Model....only a little bit worried it might be too loud based on the reviews? Great suggestion, though, and I certainly can't come up with anything any better!! :)

I have a possible idea for a dive bar. The Model, its on N Beacon in Allston. Very low-key, punk/goth/anarchist type...something that Gomez, Charisse, Henry and Clare may have liked...I have to check if they serve meals, though...check out this sight for a quick description of the type of scene it is...

I don't know if I have any ideas for a restaurant yet b/t I'm not too far in the book (about 1/2 way)...maybe when I'm further along...I keep reading about sandwiches ! :)

Hey ladies! I'll be back on Saturday and am looking forward to the newest incarnation of Bookclub next week! Any time is fine by me... though where should we meet??? Ideas: someplace Chicago-related, a dingy dive bary kind of place like that club Henry frequented, anything with a name related to time... thoughts?

Hi Everyone,

I am going to sign up for a Tuesday evening yoga class. Can we meet at 7:30 or 8:00 on the 26th so that I can go to yoga first? Does that work for everyone?

Thanks!
Aaron

Hello ladies!
I am very excited that you let me in, and am sorry that it has taken me so long to join the blog...The 26th works for me, as Maggie had already let me know. Look forward to meeting all of you!

Hi All,

The 26th works for me! Any ideas for restaurants?
Hello-

Just to catch up with you guys... The next meeting is Tuesday, Spet. 26th... Time? Place?

I am looking forward to it!

Regards,

Wendy (Catherine's Co-worker)
:)
Welcome Christina! Unfortunately we usually don't choose the book until the next meeting (or shortly after it). So it will be difficult to get a jump start on next months. We will keep you posted on when the list comes out though!

The 26th works for me...I'm about a 1/3rd of the way through it. it's good!

Thanks for inviting me to join your book club! I can't come on the 26th because I will just be starting a new job. I think I should make the October get together my first outing with the club ; ) At what point do you all decide on the book for the month? Maybe I can cheat and get started on the October book early.

The 26th works for me! I should have no problems finishing, am halfway through now and do not want to put it down.
I'm done with the book! Although I did have a head start an y'all....

The 26th is fine with me.
Not sure I'll get to the book by the end of the month, but I hope to be back on board once you choose October's book.
I haven't started yet, but don't worry I'll get there - I need to keep my perfect record in tact!
Earlier I had checked with kelly and she is back here the week of the 23-30th. That Tuesday would be the 26th. That works for me, how about everyone else?
I haven't started the book, but just finished my last one, and its up! I would prefer it be the last week in September only b/c I'm so busy with my brother's wedding and stuff, but if it has to be sooner, I can certainly get it done by then....Tuesday nights still work for me...
