Boston Bookclub

Because we like to write a lot of emails, because we have trouble reaching a consensus, because we're busy people, and, most importantly, because we all have fascinating insights into literature... we are making this space the space where we do all things 'book club.'

It was great to see everyone last night!

Our next book will be Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin. Amazon is selling used copies for $.01

Let's aim for March 31st - the last Tuesday of the month.

I'm back in.. yipee! I am leaving Clark now.
Best, Wendy
I don't think I should go to dinner tonight. I didn't go to work today due to the flu, and I don't want to spread the germs. This stinks b/c I read the book!

Address: 386 Market St. Brighton.

I will bring my list.
I'm not sure of the exact # address, but it is right in Brighton Center near the intersection of Market Street and Washington Street. If you drive up Market Street towards the center of Brighton, it's on the left hand side before the main set of lights.....

Sounds great, can you post the address.
Thanks!
Beer Garden works for me. I'm still with the flu, but I hope to be better by then!
I just made a reservation (under "Aaron") for 10 of us at Brighton Beer Garden on Tues. 2/24 at 7:00.
Okay, so the parking situation at Joe's in both Boston locations is not ideal. Maggee and I were thinking maybe we could do Brighton Beer Garden... easy parking, and "all American". What do people think?

I am in for Tuesday. This Roadkill place sounds interesting....
Rats - no roadkill.
That's a real shame.

Joe' is fine with me.
I do like Joe's AM Bar & Grill.... =]
The number that Wendy posted is out of service and I can't find any other listings for a Roadkill Cafe in Waltham. Is it possible that it isn't there any more?
Roadkill cafe is hilarious - I'm up for it! Any time.
Poor taste maybe, but love the Roadkill idea. I am def. in and can do anytime. Year end is officially over on Monday!
I agree, I think Roadkill Cafe is a great idea. I'm having trouble finding a website but will give them a call, if everyone is okay with that.
Roadkill does sound horrible, but I love the idea!
Roadkill was in poor taste, but I've always wanted to try it ! :)
I'm in for Tuesday! No string preference on the restaurant - they all sound good
There's Joe's American Grill, but I don't know where the closest one is off the top of my head. What time can folks meet, 7is?
I thought of:
Roadkill Cafe
890 Winter Street
Waltham, MA 02451
Phone: 781-839-1433

But maybe that's in poor taste... so how about this?
Joe's American Bar & Grill
100 Atlantic Ave
Boston, MA 02110
(617) 367-8700

Of course anything is fine with me... I'm in!

Best,

Wendy
I think it might be tough to find a place that fits the theme... other than a hospital cafeteria. Are there any good cafeteria style restaurants that could fit our large group? Or Cat's idea of being near a cemetery would work. The only other thought I have is that they seem like all American kids... are there any all American restaurants we could go to?

24th is on my calendar. Book just arrived, but should be able to finish it in time!

Any of the suggestions sound good to me. Have always wanted to try Elephant Walk, I know it is not thematically related, but could be good. Really, anyplace is fine.

Cat, are you up for the next list?

Monday, February 16, 2009

I just realized that my post on locations doesn't make any sense. At the time I posted I had just read "Water for Elephants" - so my suggestions were based on that book - not the one we actually read (I feel really lame and embarrassed).

Locations for our book: they eat fried seafood before going to prom...
OR, something near a cemetary- Cambridge 1 overlooks a cemetary? I think their booths only fit up to 8.

Or, minnesota cuisine?? {Whatever that is}

Or, they were cheerleaders - so sports bar?

Happy Friendship Weekend! :)
The 24th is on my calendar.
Best,
Wendy

The 24th works for me! I just started it tonight, so I have no opinion on locations yet, but any of those places Cat mentioned sound good.

Friday, February 13, 2009

The 24th works for me as well, but I ordered the book on Amazon and still haven't gotten it, so hopefully I"ll have it in time to read it before bc!!!!
The 24th works for me.

I haven't started the book yet (Yes, I know, it's my book and I promise, I WILL read it!) One of my two classes just ended today so I will start it soon. Can we pick a date now and a place later?
When should we meet? The last tuesday of the month is Feb 24th.

Maybe Elephant walk? Either in Waltham, Cambridge or Beacon hill?

Upstairs on the Square also has a funky exotic animal vibe?

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

So do we have a date in mind?  I need to pace myself to get the book read on time ; )
