Boston Bookclub

Because we like to write a lot of emails, because we have trouble reaching a consensus, because we're busy people, and, most importantly, because we all have fascinating insights into literature... we are making this space the space where we do all things 'book club.'

Majority is voting for the 20th- let's do it! Suggestions on restaurants?

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

the 20th works best for me...

Either date works for me!
Hello-
I can do the 20th... sorry I can't do Aug. 3rd.

If you meet Aug. 3rd... would anyone want to have an "unofficial" meeting on July 20th? I miss everyone!

Best,
Wendy
Either date works for me at this point too
I'm open for any of those dates right now.
My vote is the 20th! Don't think I will be able to make the 3rd.
I can only do Aug 3rd and am fine taking a little bit of time off so I can enjoy the book !
I can't do the 20th.....
I haven't had a chance to get the book yet either but the 20th or the 6th August work well for me! Can't wait!

Sorry guys, I am clearly a total slacker and we should have already HAD book club! Do we still want to keep to the first Tuesday of the month (August 3rd) and just pretend July didn't happen? Or would you rather get the show on the road and do July 20th? As I have not read the book yet (see, slacker!) I don't have any suggestions for a restaurant. Well, apart from the Summer Shack, but the book somehow seems classier than that.

Thoughts?

And the winner is......

Summer, by Edith Wharton. By a landslide. Not even close. (22 votes, compared with 8 for the second place "Solitary Summer").

Enjoy ladies! I heart Edith Wharton, so I'm very excited about this pick.

Wow what a great book! It was hard to put it down, I really wish I could have joined the discussion last week (my mom was in town from SC)! Bruce and I are in Princeton for the summer (if you can find an excuse to visit, please hop on a train). I will be teaching Monday and Wednesday nights (yes commuting from NJ to Cambridge)! I am free on Tuesdays for book club or just dinner... there are so many books I would love to catch up on and discuss with you.

I look forward to the next book!

Best regards,

Wendy

We are all set for tonight. Reservations at the Beehive in my name for 7pm.

I have had success parking there in the past (esp. since its tuesday), so I am going to try for street parking rather than valet.
What's parking like around there? Anyone know any good places/streets?
